Japanese engineers have developed a prototype humanoid robot, HRP-5P, intended to perform heavy work autonomously or in hazardous environments.
HRP-5P, a fifth-generation humanoid robotcan carry heavy construction materials to the required locations and install them according to the designated procedure, performing construction work like humans. Their great advantage is that they can handle large and heavy materials that are difficult to handle, such as large plasterboard panels, accurately remove them from their stacked location, carry them to the installation site and fix them in place.
With a height of 1.82 metres and 101 kilos in weightHRP-5P was built with technologies from the HRP humanoid robot series. According to a statement from AIST (National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology), "within the series, it has unsurpassed physical capabilities". Its robot intelligence includes environmental measurement and object recognition, planning and whole-body motion control, it adds.
