The Construction Technology Centre will grow by 20% in 2021 and expects European funds to boost innovation in the sector.

Aim of the project

The Construction Technology Centre (CTCON) held its Ordinary General Assembly in the presence of the director of INFO, Joaquín Gómez, the director general of Roads, María Luisa Casajús, and the entire board of directors of the centre headed by its president, Antonio Navarro. The event took place in the assembly hall of the Instituto de Fomento and was attended by more than twenty companies from the construction sector.

The president of CTCON stressed that 2021 has been a very good year despite the consequences of the pandemic. "If we look at the numbers of the centre, we have had a growth of more than 20% compared to 2020 and more than 50% in the last 4 years", confirmed Antonio Navarro during the Assembly.

The centre is currently carrying out 25 R&D&I projects involving more than 15 companies in the sector. This represents an induced investment in the companies of more than €4 million.

Among the most outstanding projects in 2021, CTCON has developed BIMVET3, which aims to improve BIM training at the University and Vocational Training, PLASTIFOAM, which aims to research low-temperature foamed bituminous mixtures with waste, or the study of the potential of Construction and Demolition Waste for new construction products.

During the Assembly, the main problems facing the sector were also discussed, especially the problem of the price and supply of raw materials for construction, due to the crisis and the high price of energy and fuels, which is increasing uncertainty in companies. In terms of R&D, the Next Generation funds and the new Horizon Europe programme, in 2022, could be an opportunity to improve both companies and the centre. The Technology Centre has set 2022 as a key year in which the arrival of the European Funds can become a boost for innovation in the sector.
