Fomento is organising a technical conference on Monday to disseminate the benefits of installing green roofs on buildings.

Aim of the project

It is one of the actions to renaturalise cities, framed in the Sustainable Architecture and Construction Strategy.

The Regional Ministry of Development and Infrastructures is organising a technical seminar next Monday, 3 May, to disseminate the benefits of the implementation of green roofs on the roofs of buildings in the Region of Murcia. The seminar, which will be held in telematic format, will start at 9:30 a.m. and will be attended by architects Joaquín Ruiz Piñera and Bartumeu Antich García.

The director general of Territory and Architecture, Jaime Pérez Zulueta, explained that the promotion of these facilities is one of the measures promoted by the regional executive within the framework of the Sustainable Architecture and Construction Strategy, "to renaturalise cities, fight against climate change and improve people's quality of life".

"The main advantages of green roofs are the reduction of the building's temperature in summer, which results in significant energy savings; rainwater harvesting, which contributes to the reduction of storm water run-off; carbon dioxide capture; and the improvement of biodiversity in our cities," said the director.

Pérez Zulueta highlighted the experience of the speakers taking part in the technical conference. Joaquín Ruiz Piñera is Passivhaus certified and a specialist in Sustainability and Energy Efficiency from UEL London University, while Bartomeu Antich García is a technician at the Municipal Institute of the Urban Landscape and a speaker on the Barcelona City Council's Mixed Commission for the Protection of the Urban Landscape.

The day will begin with a presentation by the Councillor for Development and Infrastructures, José Ramón Díez de Revenga, followed by a presentation by the architects Ruiz and Antich, and will be closed by the director Jaime Pérez Zulueta.
