Research and development of technologies and materials for advanced concrete 3D printing.
Aim of the project
3D printing is a revolutionary tool in the construction sector, enabling faster and more flexible product design, development and manufacturing. The use of this technology translates into lower on-site costs and a reduction in construction time and labour risks, among other benefits. In addition, it increases freedom in architectural design by enabling the creation of structures with disruptive designs.
However, 3D printing in the construction and architectural industry is currently at a preliminary stage due to the lack of design standards for printing mortar. The dosage of 3D printing mortar is critical as it must be able to be transported and extruded in a machine and then built up in layers with acceptable quality, bond and strength.
One of the limitations of this technology at present is the ability to increase the capacity to build layers in a shorter time, while maintaining the integrity of the whole. This requires the development of special mixtures and the design of the 3D printer in accordance with the needs of this type of formula. To achieve this, CTCON and CTMETAL are working on this project.
