PROJECT

3D LASER

Advanced design service of a technological and process integration methodology to evaluate deviations in the execution of construction projects with respect to the design, based on BIM and scanning technologies.

Aim of the project

The LASER3D project has been financed by the Instituto de Fomento de la Región de Murcia and co-financed with FEDER funds. The promoter of the project has been the building development company CATUR MEDITERRANEA S.L., which is very aware of the incorporation of new digital technologies to the promotion and construction sector in its different stages.

The project has developed an innovative service to increase the efficiency and quality of construction projects by making it possible to detect deviations in what has been executed with respect to what was planned, which are unattainable in the usual quality controls based on human supervision, using millimetre-precision laser scanners.

The service consists of an integration of information gathering, modelling and data flow technologies that enable automated data processing for the detection of deviations in any construction element. The service has been oriented towards the analysis of the quality of concrete structures (columns, slabs, slabs, beams, beams, footings, etc.) in building projects. The big challenges have been the handling of huge doses of information, the cleaning of this data and the creation of automated processes.

The final result has been a methodology validated in a real environment that has demonstrated the capacity to generate economic savings whose impact far exceeds the cost of the services, as well as allowing the precision and quality of the constructions to be increased. This would allow, in the short term future, even to modify the typology of contracts between different agents in the construction sector, linking them to the precision achieved.

The budget subsidised by the Instituto de Fomento amounted to 10,500 € (75% of the total service). The 80% of this subvention (8,400 €) comes from ERDF funds.
