PROJECT

LIFE NEEVE

Innovative technologies to monitor and reduce non-exhaust emissions, particulate matter and microplastics from vehicles and pavements to improve air quality and human health.

Aim of the project

The LIFE NEEVE project aims to improve air quality and sustainability in road transport, which will have a direct impact on the quality of life and health of citizens. To this end, the project aims to revolutionise the road transport sector by developing innovative methods for the reduction and measurement of non-exhaust gas emissions (Non-Exhaust Emissions, NEE), due to vehicle-pavement interaction (tyres, brakes and asphalt pavements).

The development of this project contemplates research and technological development in the different aspects involved in the generation of NEE, such as brake pads/discs, tyres and asphalt pavements. The LIFE NEEVE project aims to analyse this behaviour in real environments (Spain and Germany), by means of new real-time measurement systems for vehicles, which make it possible to quantify the NEE emissions produced.

To achieve these objectives, the LIFE NEEVE project consortium will implement a series of actions and strategies to promote, replicate and exploit these technological improvements across the EU. This is expected to raise awareness of the importance and dangers of NEE and to encourage stakeholders to take action to improve air quality, human health and climate.

The consortium is formed by: University of Seville (US), CHM Obras e Infraestructuras SA, Centro de Investigación Energéticas Medioambientales y Tecnológicas (CIEMAT), HORIBA Europe GmbH, Frenos Icer SA, Paudire Innova, RDT Ingenieros Madrid SL, Universidad Miguel Hernández de Elche (UMH), Swedish National Road and Transport Research Institute and CTCON.

Note:

The LIFE NEEVE project has just opened its stakeholder consultation on the mitigation of non-exhaust emissions (NEE) from vehicles.

If you work in the automotive sector, your views and knowledge on the needs, challenges and regulations around SEN are central to our requirements. By completing this 2-minute survey, you will be helping to shape future policies and technologies for cleaner and more sustainable mobility solutions across the EU and beyond.

We will publish the results of this survey and its analysis in January.
