Objective of the project

The LASER3D project has been financed by the Instituto de Fomento de la Región de Murcia and co-financed with FEDER Funds. The promoter of the project has been the building development company CATUR MEDITERRANEA S.L., very aware of the incorporation of new digital technologies to the promotion and construction sector in its different stages.

The project has developed an innovative service to increase the efficiency and quality of construction projects by detecting deviations in the executed with respect to the projected, unattainable in the usual quality controls based on human supervision, using millimeter laser scanners.

The service consists of an integration of information gathering, modeling and data flow technologies that allow automated data processing for the detection of deviations in any construction element. The service has been oriented to the analysis of the quality of concrete structures (columns, slabs, slabs, beams, beams, footings, etc) in building projects. The main challenges have been the handling of huge doses of information, the cleaning of this data and the creation of automated processes.

The final result has been a methodology validated in a real environment that has demonstrated the ability to generate economic savings whose impact far exceeds the cost of the services, as well as allowing to increase the accuracy and quality of the constructions. This would allow, in the short term future, even to modify the typology of contracts between different agents of the construction sector, linking them to the accuracy achieved.

The budget subsidized by the Instituto de Fomento amounted to 10,500 € (75% of the total cost of the service). Of this subvention, 80% (€8,400) came from ERDF funds.
