Cemex has developed an innovative solution that allows conventional concrete to be used in 3D printers from construction printing technology company Cobod. This is the D.fab range of additives that, when added to any concrete, transforms the material into a versatile, more fluid and manageable mix that works optimally and efficiently with 3D printers.
Cobod has used this additive for the first time in Luanda, the capital of Angola, where the construction company Power2Build has used it to build a 3D printed concrete house. Thanks to this product, local materials (aggregates) can be used to make the concrete, as the resulting mixture has the optimal consistency for this type of printer.
Benefits of the D.fab range of additives
The 3D printing solution allows the use of conventional concrete, offering the possibility to consume local and readily available materials. It is an additive that offers great benefits in addressing the world's affordable housing needs by requiring materials that are as economical as concrete.
With this Cemex solution, the strength and quality of the product combined with the speed and automation of 3D printing can help solve the affordable housing crisis in Angola and elsewhere, according to Power2Build.
