CEMEX looks to use the sun to decarbonise cement

This development is an important element of the current strategy of CEMEX Climate Action. Synhelion is a Swiss company that is a pioneer in the field of sustainable solar fuels and heating processes.

The radically new approach is based on replacing the consumption of fossil fuels in cement plants by high-temperature solar energy and in the capture of 100% from the carbon emissionswhich are subsequently used as raw material for fuel production, thus enabling the complete decarbonisation of the cement production process.

This is possible thanks to the unprecedented temperatures of solar heat supplied by Synhelion and its pioneering process for converting solar heat into electricity. CO2 in synthetic fuels such as paraffin, diesel and gasoline.

"The partnership with Synhelion reinforces our commitment to decarbonising cement production and is the result of our ongoing research efforts to develop sustainable solutions, as well as identifying strategic partners at the forefront of innovation. Synhelion shares our commitment to closing the carbon cycle and will enable us to accelerate the pace towards our ambition to deliver net zero CO2 concrete globally by 2050".Zampini concluded.
