LIFE Programme
The LIFE programme is the only EU programme exclusively devoted to the environmentthe nature conservation and the climate action. LIFE is a contribution of 100% to the objectives and targets of the European Green Pact.
For the next EU budget in the period 2021-2027, the Commission has increased funding by almost 60% for the LIFE programmeexceeding the 5.4 billion.
In general, the The rate of funding shall be 60% of the eligible costs, and can reach 95% in some types of projectsThe Commission's actions in this area include the actions related to the Clean Energy Transition sub-programme.
LIFE sub-programmes
The 4 main sub-programmes of the new edition of LIFE are detailed below:
The Nature and Biodiversity sub-programme aims to contribute to halting and reversing biodiversity loss.
They are looking for projects that support nature conservation and restorations in the Natura 2020 networks and the Priority Action Frameworksas well as projects related to species protection, invasive alien species, ecosystem restoration and much more.

The Circular Economy and Quality of Life Sub-programme aims to contribute to the areas of circular economy, noise, air, chemicals, green and circular economy, industrial accidents, marine and coastal management, waste, water and urban environment.
Typical actions to be funded include technologies and solutions that are ready to be applied under near-market, industrial or commercial scale conditions and support to public authorities and other stakeholders to implement EU environmental legislation.

The aim of the Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Sub-programme is the transformation of the European Union into a climate-neutral and - resilient society through the following actions:
On climate mitigation, projects contributing to the implementation of the 2030 energy and climate policy, the EU Member States' national energy and climate plans and the EU's long-term climate and energy strategy.
On climate adaptation, projects supporting the implementation of the new EU adaptation strategy and related national implementation.

The Clean Energy Transition Sub-Programme aims to contribute to the creation of market and regulatory conditions in EU territories for the energy transition, through activities such as the development and dissemination of best practices, mobilisation of investments, improvement of skills, removal of market barriers, awareness raising, education and training.

Specific sub-programmes of the LIFE programme
In addition to these Standard Action Projectscalls for proposals have been launched for Integrated Strategic Projects/Natural and Technical Assistance Projects for specific sub-programmes:
Integrated Strategic Projectsunder the Circular Economy and Quality of Life and Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation sub-programmes, for projects implemented on a large territorial scale (regional, multi-regional, national or transnational), climate action plans, strategies or roadmaps required by specific Union legislation, developed under other Union acts or by Member State authorities, ensuring the involvement of stakeholders and promoting the coordination mechanism and mobilisation of additional sources of funding for accompanying measures (EU, national, private, etc.).).
