The new Structural Code approved is eminently technical in nature and adopts a performance approach, in line with that used in other instructions and codes, such as the Technical Building Code, approved by Royal Decree 314/2006, of 17 March, or the Instructions EHE-08 and EAE, which are repealed by the approval of this Royal Decree, which means that the range of possible solutions is not limited and encourages the use of new products and innovative techniques. The Code establishes and quantifies requirements in such a way that they can be subject to verification and whose fulfilment accredits the satisfaction of the requirements demanded of the structures, and in particular those relating to safety.
This standard responds to the need to update the current regulations on concrete structures and steel structures, in accordance with the new technical and regulatory developments affecting the content of these regulations, as well as to include new regulations for mixed concrete and steel structures.
The Structural Code regulates the issues related to design bases and structural analysis, as well as the technical requirements for the component materials, durability and useful life of the structures, fire action, control and execution of the structures, updating the Instructions EHE-08 and EAE, which are repealed, in accordance with the aforementioned technical and regulatory developments.
