The design of Oceanix City, the world's first sustainable floating city project, was unveiled in support of UN-Habitat's New Urban Agenda: a vision for the world's first resilient and sustainable floating community, designed for 10,000 residents on an area spanning 75 hectares.
The UN Roundtable explored possible solutions to avert this catastrophe, including self-sufficient floating cities that produce their own food, energy, fresh water and zero waste. "Nine out of 10 of the world's largest cities will be exposed to rising seas by 2050.
The management of materials is based on the circular economy to avoid the creation of waste. For example, packaging will be reusable, and household objects will be shared and arranged through a 'sharing hub', a space created for residents to exchange any object. Food waste will be collected through pneumatic pipes and then converted into electricity and compost.
