Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS):
How to adapt cities to extreme weather events
OBJECTIVE Climate change and increasing urbanisation pose major challenges in managing urban planning towards a sustainable future.
Climate change will alter the hydrological cycle in many regions, causing an increased likelihood of extreme weather events. In addition, intense urbanisation and the rapid growth of cities aggravate the situation by making the soil impermeable.
In this context, Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems have emerged. These innovative techniques make it possible to manage water resources at source, helping to mitigate flood risks.
