Potential of CDW for the development of new products with high added value - REINAR
CDW is an important waste stream worldwide and is managed by recycling plants. The construction sector has a large environmental impact due to the large volumes of natural resources it manages. For this reason, this sector is a fundamental pillar in the path towards a circular and sustainable economy and, increasingly, research is being carried out into new techniques for the use of industrial waste for its recovery.
The main objective of this project is the research and development of new products with high added value through the reincorporation of Construction and Demolition Waste (CDW) in the production chain, promoting the circular economy. The aim is to identify the potential for reuse of CDW for the manufacture and development of different new products: eco-efficient cements, non-structural concretes, among others, based on the use of recycled aggregates, obtaining more economical products with a lower carbon footprint than their conventional counterparts.
In addition, the aim is to evaluate and analyse the behaviour of the products according to the nature of the waste at source and its granulometry, choosing from the treatment plant the most suitable waste fractions for the different applications.
The project will be executed by Canteras y Reciclados, S.L. with the collaboration of the Centro Tecnológico de la Construcción de la Región de Murcia (CTCON). It is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the RIS3MUR COVID-19 programme.
