Barcelona launches the technological challenge of creating a pavement that generates clean energy...

Aim of the project

This technological challenge aims to seek and explore solutions for generating renewable energy and study their feasibility for implementation on public roads. The aim is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote the production of clean energy at the local level.

Requirements and submission of proposals

The proposals submitted to the challenge must take into account the uses and consumption of the city, without generating new consumption, and must take into account the injection of the energy produced into the city's electricity grid. The design of each proposal must take into account the fact that they will be installed outdoors, so they must meet the appropriate safety and resistance requirements.

Individuals and companies interested in submit your proposals can do so until 26 September. The winning project will be announced in November at the Smart City Expo World Congress. With the 30,000 euros grant received by the winning project, a pilot test will be launched to assess its viability over a period of six months. If the results are good, the incorporation of energy-generating pavements in the city's pavement renovation processes will be considered in the medium term.
