Technical Seminar: Evaluation of the pavement of a BIT road based on its visual inspection

Aim of the project

8th July:" Technical Workshop: Evaluation of the pavement of a BIT road from visual inspection" from 10h to 12h.

This Technical Seminar was organised by the Technical Committee for Low Intensity Roads (BIT) of the Technical Road Association to present a document drawn up by the Committee for the evaluation of the condition of the pavement of a BIT road based on visual inspection.

Low Traffic Intensity Roads (LTI) in Spain are considered to be all those roads which have a DMI of less than 2,000 vehicles/day or whose heavy traffic category is T31 or lower (less than 200 heavy vehicles/lane/day).

Among the work carried out by this Committee is a survey on CONSERVATION MANAGEMENT on BIT roads. One of the results of this survey refers to the auscultation carried out on this type of road. The results are heterogeneous, with low percentages, especially in the case of roads belonging to provincial, regional and local councils (DPFC).

As a complement, information was requested on the performance of visual auscultation. Here the result was high since, as regards pavements, 89% of the Autonomous Communities and 100% of the DPFCs carry out a visual inspection of the pavement, thus complementing the scarce auscultation that is carried out.

For this reason, the Committee decided to draw up a document: "METHODOLOGY FOR THE EVALUATION OF THE STATE OF THE SURFACE ON A LOW TRAFFIC INTENSITY ROAD BASED ON VISUAL INSPECTION. PROPOSAL OF POSSIBLE ACTIONS FOR THE CONSERVATION OF THE ROAD SURFACE THROUGH SUSTAINABLE TECHNICAL SOLUTIONS" that would allow unifying the criteria for the visual evaluation of the road surface and that, by means of indicators, would facilitate the evaluation of the state of the road surface and its evolution over time, serving as a very elementary Management System for road surfaces.

The methodology will be presented and how to apply it will be explained at this conference, which was initially intended to be an in-person event to be held in different geographical areas for the dissemination of the document.

It is intended that this initial conference, in videoconference format, will allow the active participation of the attendees to clarify any doubts or queries that may arise during the presentation. To this end, the most extensive part of the conference, practically half of the total time, is a ROUND TABLE at the end of the conference, which will allow the participation, via chat, of all the participants in the conference.
