CAETRA Tractor Companies Cycle: Indra Systems Day

This morning, the Institute for Promotion organized the CAETRA Tractor Companies Cycle event, in which Indra Systems participated. In this event, some of the challenges that regional companies face when participating in the financing of projects related to the defense and security sector were addressed. CTCON had the attendance of our colleague Jorge Martínez Montesinos in an event introduced by Joaquín Gómez Gómez from INFO and conducted by Indra.

In the context of the current geopolitical situation marked by conflicts in Ukraine and Israel, we have observed a significant increase in defense investment by the Spanish government. This year, the defense budget increased by 26%, reaching 2% of GDP (this budget will triple by 2029). The goal is to strengthen our security, ensure peace, boost the country's industrial base, and create highly skilled jobs.

To avoid potential supply problems, the Ministry of Defense has identified critical capabilities that must be provided by Spanish suppliers, in addition to important capabilities that can be addressed by European suppliers. The defense sector is highly competitive and complex, emphasizing the importance of collaboration among entities and innovation. Indra, as the third-largest company in R&D and innovation investment in Spain, plays a crucial role in this context.

One of the key areas for innovation in the defense sector is digital transformation. This involves adapting technologies that have been successful in the civilian world, such as Big Data, IoT, digital twins, and geolocation, to the military domain. In this regard, CTCON has launched projects related to digitization in collaboration with construction companies. It is important to note that many of the technologies applicable in the military domain have dual-use potential, so we will be attentive to any opportunities that may arise for innovation in the defense field related to the products and services of construction companies.
