CTCON and its innovative approach to combat the harmful effects of Urban Heat Islands
As various media outlets report, recent studies reaffirm the health consequences of the Urban Heat Island effect. This phenomenon, which presents a growing challenge, occurs when urban areas experience significantly higher temperatures than their surrounding rural areas. At CTCON, we tackle numerous studies with an innovative approach to combat the harmful effects of this phenomenon.
There are several effective solutions to counter the Urban Heat Island effect, such as cool or reflective roofs, green roofs, reflective surfaces, urban green spaces, or intelligent irrigation systems, among others.
Reflective pavements reduce heat absorption, thus lowering the temperature on city streets and sidewalks. One of our key projects that has had a significant impact is the Life Heatland project, which has demonstrated the mitigation of the Urban Heat Island effect through the use of innovative reflective pavement.
Additionally, at CTCON, we have worked on solutions for cool roofs and facades, which, by increasing solar reflectance, help reduce both the indoor temperature of buildings and the surrounding area, thereby decreasing the need for air conditioning and thermal load in cities.
Another solution researched at CTCON is green facades; these vegetative systems not only provide aesthetic appeal but also act as natural thermal insulators, reducing the temperature of buildings and their surroundings. Green roofs also help filter the air, reduce water runoff, and promote biodiversity in urban areas.
It is important to note that at CTCON, we focus not only on project implementation but also on raising awareness and educating the community. Informative workshops and lectures have been organized to educate people about the health effects of urban heat islands and the importance of taking measures to combat them.
