Technical seminar - Assessment of BIT road pavement from visual inspection

July 8th: Technical Seminar: Evaluation of the pavement of a low-intensity traffic road (BIT) based on visual inspection from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

This Technical Seminar is organized by the Technical Committee of Low-Intensity Traffic Roads (BIT) of the Technical Association of Roads for the presentation of a document developed by the Committee for evaluating the condition of the pavement of a BIT road based on visual inspection.

Low-Intensity Traffic Roads (BIT) in Spain are considered to be those with an Average Daily Traffic (ADT) of fewer than 2,000 vehicles per day or whose heavy traffic category is T31 or lower (less than 200 heavy vehicles per lane per day).

Among the works carried out by this Committee is a Survey on the MANAGEMENT of CONSERVATION on BIT roads. One of the results of this survey refers to the inspection conducted on this type of roads. The results are heterogeneous and with low percentages, especially on roads dependent on provincial councils, regional governments, and councils (DPFC).

As a complement, information was requested on the implementation of visual inspection. Here, the result was high since, regarding the pavements, 89% of the autonomous communities and 100% of the DPFC conduct visual inspection of the pavement, thus complementing the limited inspection carried out.

For this reason, the Committee decided to develop a document: "METHODOLOGY FOR THE EVALUATION OF THE PAVEMENT CONDITION IN A LOW-TRAFFIC INTENSITY ROAD BASED ON VISUAL INSPECTION. PROPOSAL OF POSSIBLE PAVEMENT CONSERVATION ACTIONS THROUGH SUSTAINABLE TECHNICAL SOLUTIONS" that would unify the criteria for visual pavement evaluation and, through indicators, facilitate the assessment of the pavement condition and its evolution over time, serving as a very basic Pavement Management System.

In this Seminar, which was initially intended to be in-person and held in different geographical areas for the dissemination of the document, the methodology will be presented and explained on how to apply it.

It is intended that this initial Seminar, in video conference format, allows active participation of the attendees to clarify any doubts or questions that may arise during the presentation. For this purpose, the most extensive part of it, practically half of the total time, is a ROUND TABLE, at the end of the Seminar, that allows participation, through the chat, of all the participants in the Seminar.
