THE CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGY CENTRE GROWS BY 20% IN 2021 AND EXPECTS EUROPEAN FUNDS TO BOOST INNOVATION IN THE SECTOR

The Construction Technology Center (CTCON) has held its Ordinary General Assembly with the presence of the director of INFO, Joaquín Gómez, the general director of Roads, María Luisa Casajús, and the entire board of directors of the center headed by its president, Antonio Navarro.  The day took place in the auditorium of the Instituto de Fomento and was represented by more than twenty companies in the construction sector.

The president of CTCON stressed that 2021 has been very good despite the consequences of the pandemic. "If we look at the numbers of the center, we have had a growth of more than 20% with respect to 2020 and more than 50% in the last 4 years," antonio Navarro confirmed during the Assembly.

Today, in the center 25 R&D&I projects are being carried out in which more than 15 companies in the sector participate. This means an induced investment in companies of more than € 4 million.

Among the most outstanding projects of 2021, CTCON has developed BIMVET3, whose objective is to improve BIM training at the University and professional training, PLASTIFOAM, whose objective is the research of low-temperature foamed bituminous mixtures with waste, or the study of the potential of Construction and Demolition Waste for new construction products.

During the Assembly, the main problems facing the sector were also discussed, in particular, the problem of the price and supply of raw materials for construction, due to the crisis and the high price of energy and fuels, and that is growing uncertainty in companies. As for R&D, next funds Generation and the new Horizon Europe programme, in this year 2022, they can be an opportunity for improvements both to companies and to the center. The Technology Centre has marked the year 2022 as a key year in which the arrival of European Funds can become a boost to innovation in the sector.
