The European Union's strategy for generating growth and employment consists of flagship initiatives, one of which is "A Europe that efficiently uses resources." This initiative is intended to transform the EU into a "circular economy" based on sustainability, aiming to maintain the value of products, materials, and resources for as long as possible.
Within this context, the current project emerges, whose main objective is to develop highly durable elastomeric asphalt sheets by incorporating used tire waste in modified bitumen mixes, thus contributing to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly production. This also provides a solution to the current issues related to the management of used tire waste.
Through the work carried out in the project, binders modified with SBS polymers and used tire waste will be developed. This will improve the mechanical performance of the asphalt sheets at both high and low temperatures, as well as their thermal and acoustic insulation properties.
